BP reportedly ordered 32 centrifuge devices made by a company co-founded by Hollywood actor Kevin Costner to assist the oil spill cleanup in the Gulf of Mexico. The company says the largest of the devices can process about 795,000 liters a day, separating gunk from water.

Ocean Therapy Solutions has increased production to get the devices to the Gulf of Mexico, Costner's business partner told the Los Angeles Times.

"Kevin has spent 15 years and $24 million of his own money on this technology, and we have spent over $1 million more than that on adjusting the machines and preparing them for testing," Costner's business partner and Louisiana Attorney John Houghtaling told the paper. Costner bought the technology in 1989 and called on scientists to help perfect it. Costner was on the Hill last week to testify before the House Committee on Science and Technology about Ocean Therapy's technologies.
