Winners presented with awards at Ankara Film Festival

Turkish films “Men on the Bridge” and “Black Dogs Barking” headlined the winners during an award ceremony at the 21st Ankara International Film Festival on Sunday night.

Turkish films “Men on the Bridge” and “Black Dogs Barking” headlined the winners during an award ceremony at the 21st Ankara International Film Festival on Sunday night.

Aslı Özgen, director of the festival’s Best Film winner, “Men on the Bridge,” received her award from Culture and Tourism Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Nihat Gül.

Mert Fırat, who was chosen as best actor for his role in the film “Love in Another Language” took his award from actress Filiz Akın. Meanwhile, Saadet Işıl Aksoy, winner of the Best Actress award for her role in the same film, received her award from theater actress Ayten Gökçer.

Akın, who also won the Aziz Nesin Labor award, received that prize from former Culture Minister Talat Halman. She also said it was an honor to receive the prize given in the name of master humorist Aziz Nesin.

Other major award winners at the festival included Pelin Esmer for best director for “10 to 11,” Selen Uçar for best supporting actress in “Big Game,” Volga Sorgu for best supporting actor in “Black Dogs Barking” and best screenplay for “10 to 11.”

The festival also presented awards to the winners of the National Short Film Competition and the National Documentary Competition.

The Cinema Writers Association also gave its Best Film award to “Black Dogs Barking.”

The ceremony was organized by the Global Mass Communication Studies Foundation and sponsored by Halkbank.
