Turkey has welcomed the Danish Court of Appeal’s order to cancel the broadcasting license of the Kurdish-language television station Roj TV and its parent company Mesopotamia Broadcast on account of “inciting terrorism.”

The court found Roj TV and its parent company guilty of inflaming terrorism and ordered them to halt broadcasts after nearly doubling their fines on July 3, 2013.

The Roj TV station was also accused by the Danish court of having links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it welcomed the decision. “Denmark’s Court of Appeal’s order proves the PKK is a terrorist organization and Roj TV is financed by the PKK terror organization and the broadcasts that incite terrorism cannot be regarded as part of the freedom of press or speech.”

Denmark’s Eastern High Court found Mesopotamia Broadcast, which controls Roj TV, MMC and Nûçe TV, guilty of promoting the militant group on July 3 and stripped them of their right to broadcast after ruling the broadcaster had indeed received support from the PKK.
