Creative writing center to open in Seferihisar

An international creative writing center is preparing to open in İzmir’s Seferihisar district with support from one of the world’s most famous universities.

The center, which plans to host famous writers from around the world, aims to become a world renowned place in the field of scriptwriting and text authorship, according to officials.

Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Education lecturer Professor Yavuz Demir said he had prepared a project to open the center in Turkey while he was giving courses at Oxford University and added the legendary British institution, as well as the United States’ Ferris University, had also decided to take part in the project.

Demir said Stanford and New York universities would also be included in the project.

Leading universities throughout the world often open creative writing departments, Demir said.

“In this sense, this center will be the first one. Representatives of three universities will sign a protocol with Seferihisar Mayor Tunç Soyer on Nov. 30. After the assignment of space, construction for the center will probably start in the first months of the New Year. There will be a house for the writer and small meeting halls. Courses will be held not only in the center but also in archaeological excavation areas in the ancient city of Teos and in various coves. Lecturers from the partner universities, writers and students will come to the center. Conferences and workshops will also be organized,” he said.
