Turkish actor Tuncel Kurtiz, who died this September, is being commemorated with a special film program organized by the Turkish cinema industry, Yeşilçam.

The program, which started on Dec. 6 and runs until Dec. 16, will screen films that Kurtiz acted in and directed, as well as documentaries about his life and the records of Şeyh Bedrettin Destanı (The Epic of Sheik Bedreddin) that he staged, according to a written statement made by the Yeşilçam Cinema. The records of the play, for which Kurtiz wrote the script in Sweden, will be shown for the first time.

During the screenings, directors of films and many friends of Kurtiz will meet the audiences.

In a statement, the organizer of the event, Yeşilçam Cinema’s owner director Reis Çelik, said that Kurtiz was present among them when the Yeşilçam Cinema was founded in 1999, adding, “He attached great importance to the foundation of such alternative cinemas. We planned it together and he decided how it will be operated. ‘This is an independent cinema’ he said, and we maintain this principle.”
