CHP to host Socialists’ meeting
ANKARA
Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) will host a meeting of the Socialist International’s (SI) Special Committee on the Arab World, to discuss social-democrat approaches for the transformation process in the region.The SI’s president, George Papandreou, and secretary-general, Luis Ayala, will join CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at the gathering, scheduled for March 23 and 24 in Istanbul.Representatives of social-democrat parties from many countries, as well as academics, opinion leaders and bloggers from Arab Spring countries have been invited to the meeting, CHP lawmaker Umut Oran told the Hürriyet Daily News, adding that the attendance list had not yet been finalized.
