An empty five-story building collapsed in the Şehit Muhtar neighborhood of Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district on April 8. Several other buildings were damaged as a result of the collapse.

People heard sounds coming from the previously emptied and plated building and warned passers-by to stay away from the area. The situation was reported to the local police and fire departments.

After arriving at the scene, the police took security measures.

The building was empty before the collapse, according to the fire department’s initial examination.

Teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the Search and Rescue Association (AKUT) were sent to the area as a precaution. The teams’ search under the debris was ongoing.
