Beşiktaş’s Spor Toto Super League title hopes came to an inglorious end on May 18 in Ankara, with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Torku Konyaspor.

The Black Eagles are now seven points behind league leader Galatasaray with two matches to spare.

Torku Konyaspor snatched the win at the Osmlanlı Stadium - Beşiktaş’s temporary home as its legendary İnönü is currently under reconstruction - thanks to a goal from Romanian winger Gabriel Torje from a corner kick in the 80th minute, which left Besiktas goalkeeper Günay Güvenç flailing.

Beşiktaş is now in third place with 66 points, behind leader Galatasaray on 73 points and second-placed Fenerbahçe on 70 points.

Galatasaray is set to host Beşiktaş at the Turk Telekom Arena on Sunday, and Fenerbahçe is building its hopes on a possible Galatasaray defeat.

Meanwhile, Balıkesirspor and Kardemir Karabükspor were both relegated from Turkey’s top league on May 19 after Çaykur Rizespor beat Akhisar Belediyespor 3-1.
