Wakata praised the view, but many Turkish tweeps begged to differ.

Japanese Astronaut Koichi Wakata has shared a picture of Istanbul from space as he was crossing above Turkey’s metropolis.

“Flying over Istanbul, Turkey - one of my favorite views from the ISS,” Wakata wrote in his tweet of the picture on his Twitter account.

Wakata became the first Japanese commander of the International Space Station last December.
Many Turkish tweeps, who braved the current ban on access to Twitter to share and comment on the photo, lamented that the city’s ever expanding concrete was visible even from space.
