Ancient mound hosts documentary project

A new documentary project focusing on the Silk Road in the Seljuk era has been shot in part at the Kültepe Kaniş Karum Mound in the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri, where Assyrian traders exchanged goods some 4,000 years ago.

The general coordinator of the documentary project, named “Kervan” (Caravan), İbrahim Dıvarcı, said caravans were among the factors that led to the trade of goods on the Silk Road. 

“The documentary features the Silk Road in the Seljuk era in the 1200s,” he said.

Stating that the film contained 12 episodes, Dıvarcı added it was the first Turkish documentary to be shot entirely in 4K. 

The documentary was set to be screened in the spring, said Dıvarcı, adding that their goal was to promote the Silk Road abroad. 

He said that the road should be revived again, adding, “But first of all we need to know why caravans used this road 1,000 years ago and how people changed after it.”

He said they also focused on, bridges, madrasahs, mosques and tombs in the documentary, adding that the shooting started in the eastern province of Iğdır and ended in the southern province of Antalya along a route 1,920 kilometers long which included 12 cities.
