The 72nd edition of the Venice festival, which will be held Sept. 2-21, announced its three international jurors on July 27.
Ceylan, who won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014, will be accompanied by Oscar-winning Polish-British director Pawel Pawlikowski and French author and director Emmanuel Carrere, plus Italian director Francesco Munzi on the nine-member jury.
The jury will award the following official prizes to the feature films in competition:
The Golden Lion for Best Film, the Silver Lion for Best Director, the Grand Jury Prize, the Coppa Volpi for Best Actor, the Coppa Volpi for Best Actress, the “Marcello Mastroianni” Award for Best New Young Actor or Actress, the Award for Best Screenplay and the Special Jury Prize.
In May, the Venice festival revealed Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron as its jury director.
In 2009, Ceylan was a member of the main competition jury at Cannes. This year’s festival will also see the rescreening of fellow Turkish award-winner Yılmaz Güney’s 1970-movie “Umut” (Hope) at the Venice Classics section, a world premiere selection of restored films.
