ANKARA

The Ankara-based Animation Technologies and Game Development Center (ATOM) of the prestigious Middle East Technical University’s (ODTÜ) Techno Park hosted 250 game developers between Jan. 25 and Jan. 27 as part of the Global Game Jam (GGJ) marathon’s annual event.

A total of 56 games were developed in the center within the scope of this year’s theme “What home means to you” during this period, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Many traditional Turkish motifs were the games’ main subjects.

In one of the games, named “Flight to Matrimony,” the game’s protagonist departs to start a family under the pressure of his mother. During his journey, the protagonist, called “Kaan,” needs to improve himself enough so that he can persuade his potential wife into marriage.

Another game that drew attention at the event was called “Back Home” which places a young boy at the center of its theme. The boy arrives home at a late hour and hopes to sneak into his room without anyone noticing but sees his father waiting for him. The father is so happy with the son coming home so late and tries to catch him.

More than 8,000 games were developed in 114 countries as part of Global Game Jam (GGJ) marathon’s annual event, held between Jan. 25 and Jan. 27.

The Global Game Jam is the world’s largest game jam event taking place in physical locations across the globe. This year’s event was held in 114 countries, with participants creating more than 8,000 games.

Turkey has been a participant country since the launch of the event in 2009.
