Iran issues security warning to citizens in Turkey

Tehran’s warning came amid two deadly car bomb attacks in Turkey.

Iranian tourists can contact Iran’s official representatives in Istanbul, Ankara, Erzurum and Trabzon, the statement released from the Iranian Embassy in Ankara said, also warning Iranians to stay away from crowded spots. 

Turkey was rocked by two deadly attacks on June 7 and June 8, in Istanbul and the southeastern province of Mardin respectively.

The June 7 car bomb attack targeting a police vehicle in Istanbul’s Vezneciler neighborhood left 11 people dead, six of whom were police officers.

The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK), affiliated with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), claimed responsibility for the attack, which was carried out with a female suicide bomber. 

One day later, the police headquarters in the Midyat district of Mardin was hit by a car bomb attack, killing six people, three of whom were police officers. The attack was claimed by the PKK, which said in a statement that it was carried out by a male suicide bomber.
