17 suspects detained in PKK operation in Istanbul

Seventeen suspects were detained early on Aug. 11 in operations targeting the urban structure of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Istanbul.Counterterrorism police conducted operations on addresses in the districts of Beyoğlu, Esenyurt, Sultangazi, Bahçelievler, Bağcılar, Avcılar, Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Esenler and Gaziosmanpaşa.
Seventeen suspects were detained in operations supported by police helicopters.
In addition, police also conducted searches inside the provincial headquarters of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Beyoğlu for allegedly hosting meetings by suspects who organize illegal demonstrations.
One walkie-talkie, one jammer device and a number of organizational documents were seized during the searches.
The suspects were later transferred to a police station after health checks.
Meanwhile, Turkish jets conducted an air operation on Aug. 10 targeting PKK targets in the Sinat-Haftanin region in northern Iraq starting at 2 p.m.
The strikes followed a PKK attack on Turkish soldiers in the Uludere district of the southeastern province of Şırnak, in which four soldiers were killed and nine were wounded.
