Syria's embattled president, Bashar al-Assad, was wounded in yesterday's bomb attack which killed the country's top security chiefs, The Guardian reported today.

The report also claimed al-Assad's wife, Asma, had fled to Russia.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that al-Assad had suffered injuries in yesterday's attack which killed his brother-in-law and the deputy chief of the Armed Forces, Assef Shawkat, as well as Defense Minister Dawoud Rahja and Hassan Turkmani, the crisis management chief.

Assad was in the coastal city of Latakia, directing a response to the assassination of three of his top lieutenants, opposition sources and a Western diplomat said today, as reported by Reuters.

Assad, who has not made a public appearance since yesterday's bombing, was commanding the government operation, they said. It was not clear whether Assad traveled to the Mediterranean sea resort before or after the attack.

Syrian Information Minister Umran al-Zuabi, speaking on state TV yesterday, vowed that those behind the attack would be held accountable even if they were outside the country.

He also said the bombing was orchestrated by Turkish, Qatari, Saudi Arabian and Israeli intelligence.

I'm disagreeing that the U.S has any involvemrnt in Syria, other than monitoring events. I really do, simply becasue nothing good could come of it. You look at Ibya, Egypt, etc. our involvement was minimal becasue everyone here is scared to death of another Afghanistan scenrio where the people we help comes back to bite us. I don't know, may I'm off but that is what I have seen. Our involement has come mainly in the way of vocal support against tyranny.

Israel is extremely worried i guess. And Turkey should have shared satellite photos but our satellites aren't up there yet.

Funny, he is on T.V in damascus, wow, also the "opposition" claims they bombed the ministry of information, funny, the building doesn't look the same the FSA show, infact the "opposition" is getting a pounding, the FSA and it's cohorts are in collusion with al-qeida, you know the ones the yanks and saudi's supporting in Syira while at the same time killing them in other countries, Why hasn't turkey threatened and acted on Isreal? cause turkey only picks on the weaker countries.

BLUE Why do you blame Obama? I am not at all surprised that you would blame Bush or the USA, But OBAMA? He doesn't have the fortitude to make any kind of military decisions. In the USA, we know we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. YOu might not understand but when you are a World Power you are always the target to somebody, because you can't please all the people all the time. Simple.

This changes the game plan. So far Syria has been on the defensive. Now Erdogan and his GCC and Israeli allies have made themselves targets. We can expect revenge violence within these countries. The gloves are off now. WWIII and the genocide of billions is nigh. Thanks Obama.

Brilliant reporting. He may have been injured in an attack he may not have been anywhere near.
