Afife Awards nominees announced

Afife Awards nominees announced The nominees for the 19th Yapı Kredi Afife Theater Awards were announced at a press conference held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Istanbul on March 30.

“We have received lots of criticism; many things hurt us. But we still continue,” said Yapı Kredi Art Consultant Haldun Dormen, a veteran actor.

Yapı Kredi Afife Theater Awards President Salih Başağa said Küçük Sahne, the first private theater in Turkey, was established in 1952 by theater master Muhsin Ertuğrul with the support of Yapı Kredi. “This journey started 19 years ago in order to keep the name of Afife Jale alive, to crown the masters of theater and support today’s theater artists,” he said.

The recipients of the Special Awards were also announced at the ceremony.

This year, the Muhsin Ertuğrul Special Award will be presented to Professor Zeliha Berksoy, the Cevat Başkurt Special Award will be presented to Firuze Engin and the Yapı Kredi Special Award will be presented to Şahika Tekand.

The Afife Theater Awards ceremony will be held on April 27 at the Haliç Congress Center.
