Jazz Festival presents concerts at park

The Jazz in the Parks’ event will take place at Nişantaşı’s Arts Park club.

The 21st Istanbul Jazz Festival, which kicked off on July 1, will introduce “Jazz in Parks,” a new project aiming to bring together accomplished jazz musicians at outdoor venues throughout Istanbul.

The Jazz in the Parks’ event will take place at Nişantaşı’s Arts Park club, which has two open-air stages, on July 5 at 6:00 p.m.

The headline act will be New Orleans jazz pianist Jon Batiste & Stay Human. Recognized as one of the most exciting talents to emerge from the Crescent City in recent years, Batiste transcends genres - from jazz to blues and hip-hop to classical - with his modern take on American music.

Other guests will include the Polish band Mitch & Mitch, which comprises of nine musicians, part of the 2014 cultural program celebrating 600 years of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Poland.

Before these two leading bands take to the stage, the finalists of the Young Jazz series, the Baturay Yarkın Trio, the Cazzip Project, Mikado, the Nom Trio and the Tümer Uluçınar Quartet, will all perform on the same stage.

All concerts will be free of charge. Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Arts and Culture (İKSV), the Istanbul Jazz Festival will take place across 13 different venues until July 16, hosting over 200 local and international acts.
