ISTANBUL
Three films by Liam Young at Istanbul’s Studio-X An exhibition by speculative Australian architect, artist and filmmaker Liam Young, “New Romance” is on view at Istanbul’s Studio-X.

Presenting three new short fiction films, “In the Robot Skies” (2016), “Where the City Can’t See” (2016), and the debut of “Renderlands” (2017), the exhibition charts Young’s recent explorations of cinematic narrative as a form of architectural presentation and design. The three films are screened in a loop in a purpose-built cinema inside the gallery.

By deploying autonomous drones, manipulating laser scanning and data and mining the digital detritus of the global industry of outsourced renderings, Young creates new worlds where speculative scenarios unfold. He has emerged as one of the most distinctive and adventurous voices in contemporary architecture. Through research expeditions, storytelling, documentary film and performance, Young extrapolates and exaggerates existing networks, systems and technologies to imagine possible urban futures through the trio of films.
“Liam Young: New Romance” can be seen through Nov. 3.
