The Gezi Park protests are gradually becoming a cultural phenomenon as its own codes and lexicon is invented. The crowd is now turning the statements of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan into satirical jokes. Police brutality, which led to many injuries among protesters, was strongly denounced. But many protesters have also taken the tear gas and water cannon frenzy rather lightly. The capital city of Ankara, where locals took to the street in solidarity with the protesters in Istanbul, was one of the cities where police repression was the strongest.
