Located in the eastern Black Sea province of Artvin, the valley offers many unique spots such as the Mençune Waterfall and two stone bridges remaining from the Ottoman era. However, the plants that have been rapidly spreading across Turkey in recent years threaten the delicate ecological balance of whole regions, such as the Arhavi district that includes the Kamilet Valley, by significantly reducing water levels in small streams. A 'land of fog' full of waterfalls, green forests, and historical curiosities, the Kamilet Valley is increasingly attracting the attention of Turkish environmental enthusiasts and nature tourists. However, the valley’s beautiful natural location, home to more than 11,000 plant species, has a ferocious arch-enemy that has also expanded in recent years: Hydroelectric power plants (HES).
