Fifty international aid groups and U.N. agencies have called on Israel to lift its Gaza border blockade, saying it violates international law.

Israel began restricting access to Gaza after Hamas militants captured an Israeli soldier in 2006. It tightened the blockade after Hamas seized the territory in 2007.

Since 2010, Israel has allowed most imports, but still sharply limits Gaza exports and travel. Egypt used to go along, but eased restrictions after the fall of President Hosni Mubarak last year.

The groups noted on Thursday that more than half of Gaza's 1.6 million people are children. Signatories include seven U.N. agencies, among them the World Health Organization.

Israel says the blockade helps prevent attacks by militants. Others say it is a largely unsuccessful attempt to pressure Hamas.

Ilker Avni: you forgot also to mention that the Zionists of Israel using Palestinian children's blood for the Passover bread. Recently Israel borrowed from Ahmadinejad in Iran hundreds of gallows being used for hanging Palestinians and raping their wives (Sorry if I forgot anything else). You have only small mistake, you mixed up things, Israel left Gaza till the last inch and form the 1st moment Israeli settlements been targeted. Kindly explain what is Arab land if the Hamas agenda no Israel.

@ danny b danny The only way for Hamas to stop fireing rockets into israel ,is if the israelis stop useing f-16s and tanks with impunity killing thousands of palenstinians and stealing more and more arab land, secondly i am sure if Israel allowed UN into Gaza and all palenstinians lands the fighting would stop.Ask your self why Israel does not allow any UN peace keepers in Palenstine?.They even say its all right to kill palenstinian children because they will grow up to be terroists.

Since 2005 Israel is no longer in Gaza, even not in 1 inch of Gaza's territory. Goods are entering Gaza (if they don't blow up the terminal) Electricity entering Gaza (often the target the power station) and there is no shortage at all. They have border with Egypt and goods are entering Gaza freely. The only thing Israel won't accept is the continues shooting of rockets and mortars into Israel's schools and buses. Its in their hands.

Ilker Avni. Israel will lift its blockade same moment they will give up their rockets missiles and mortar bombs. Let them hand it over to UN, Let them stop targeting our schools and buses . Let them stop teaching their children that Jews are apes and pigs and to teach their children to be a Shahid. The day they will recognize the existance of Israel and stop shooting at the power station supplying them the electricity , blowing up the terminal goods being entered to Gaza.

While Israel has the United Staes as its lawyer it can getaway with anything, who pays the price in the long run it will be the United states as it loses more and more creditablity trying to justify Israeli crimes against humanity.Israel is a liablity to the whole world while it has weapons of mass destruction.
