5 arrested in Uludere for attack

Five people were arrested in Uludere for allegedly attacking the deputy governor Naif Yavuz, who visited the district where 35 civilians were killed in a botched air raid were attacked by a group of people on Dec. 28.

Deputy Gov. Naif Yavuz was traveling to Gülyazı village to offer condolences to families of the killed when a group of people wielding sticks attacked him and hurled stones at Yavuz.

Investigation
Meanwhile, an investigation has started against 17 army officers in charge of several command posts and stations at villages surrounding the ill-fated Gülyazı Village where 35 villagers lost their lives two weeks ago after war planes accidentally bombed their convoy.
 
The neighboring villages in question in the southeastern province of Şırnak’s Uludere district are Andaç, Gülyazı, Ortasu, Yemişli and Şenoba.

A demand for the suspension of the commander of the Gülyazı Battalion has already been filed. The investigation is opened on charges of “malpractice” and “acting against the number 4926 anti-smuggling law.”
