A total of 42 military personnel were detained early July 25 at the Turkish War Colleges Command in Istanbul as part of operations into the coup attempt of July 15 that failed to overthrow the democratically-elected government in Ankara.

Counter-terrorism police rounded up suspects, which included commissioned officers, from the premises in the central Levent neighborhood of Istanbul.

The suspects were brought to the police department for interrogation, a security source said on condition of anonymity.

The suspects’ home addresses were also searched and computers and documents were seized, the source added.

Another 15 officers from the command, which oversees the war colleges of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), were remanded in custody since being detained on July 18.

Around 13,000 suspects, including military personnel, police officers, judiciary members and civil servants, have been arrested in a nationwide probe into the failed coup, which saw at least 246 people killed and 2,100 injured.
