A total of 33 suspects have been detained in anti-terror operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in separate operations in four provinces.

Anti-terror police departments in the southeastern provinces of Adıyaman and Şırnak, as well as Istanbul, conducted separate operations against the PKK early Aug. 6, which resulted in the detention of 24 suspects, while gendarmerie forces in the southeastern province of Gaziantep detained nine suspects in raids against the PKK. 

Police detained four suspects in an operation against the PKK and the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) in multiple raids in Şırnak. One Kalashnikov, two chargers, 37 cartridges, one hand grenade and eight fireworks were seized in the raids.

In Adıyaman, police detained 13 suspects, who were allegedly involved in illegal demonstrations that were staged to protest the July 20 Suruç suicide bombing attack that killed 33 socialist youth activists, as well as the bomber, a supporter of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Seven people were detained in six Istanbul districts early Aug. 5 in simultaneous raids against addresses where suspected PKK members lived or worked. 

Two unlicensed guns, 70 bullets, one blank cartridge, 107 shotguns and documents belonging to the organization were seized in the raids in Istanbul.

On the same day, provincial gendarmerie forces in Gaziantep’s İslahiye district conducted raids at multiple addresses, detaining nine suspects.
