A 13-year-old boy died on Oct. 3 after a goat that had been bought to be sacrificed during Eid al-Adha, fell onto him from the sixth floor roof of a building in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

Mehmet Yıldırım, the father of Heval Yıldırım, placed the goat on the roof of the building where he lives because he could not find another suitable place to keep it ahead of Eid al-Adha. However, the animal jumped off the roof over the protective fence and fell onto the young Heval, who was playing with his friends in front of the building.

The boy was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, with a prosecutor describing it as “unprecedented.”

Mehmet Yıldırım has expressed sorrow over the death of his son, but said there is “nothing to say about such an incident.”

“Even the prosecutor has said this incident could be the first of its kind around the world,” he added.
