Some 10 suspects including six former mayors were released early today by a Diyarbakır court in the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) case which is allegedly the urban wing of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Diyarbakır Mayor Osman Baydemir greeted the releases at the sixth Diyarbakır High Criminal Court.

“We are enjoying this verdict but thousands of our friends are still being kept in prison. I hope that the other friends also are gathered to their families and freedom when the unlawfulness gives way to justice and clashes to permanent honorable peace,” Said Diyarbakır Mayor Osman Baydemir who greeted the released people.

Former mayors Fırat Anlı, Ahmet Ertak, Kazım Kurt, Hüseyin Kalkan, Abdullah Akengin, Ferhan Türk and others Arslan Özdemir, Hasan Üner, Takibe Turgay Fadile Bayram were freed this morning from Diyarbakır Prison after legal procedures completed.
