During repair work on Istanbul’s Metrobus line at Avcılar-Beylikdüzü a concrete bridge siding collapsed July 15 killing one worker and injuring two.

The connecting bridge was being built across the E-5 highway when a large section of concrete blocks fell from the side of the bridge. One worker, Yakup Kavak, was trapped under the blocks and died at the scene of accident. Two other workers, Hasan Güney (41) and Adem Yıldırım (42), were injured.
After receiving initial medical treatment at the scene, the injured workers were transported to Dr. Sadi Konuk Education and Research Hospital in Bakırköy. A lifter was used to remove Kavak’s body from the concrete blocks for examination.

The accident caused a significant traffic back-up on the E-5 highway. Metrobus services ceased and passengers walked along the Metrobus line.
