The United Kingdom is stepping forward as a mediating force between Israel and Turkey, according to the Israeli daily Haaretz.

The reason behind the recent move is reportedly Turkey and Israel’s shared interests in Syria.

U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron is now acting as a third party between the leaders of the two powers in an attempt to find common ground between the former allies.

Cameron reportedly attempted to connect the two leaders by asking Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu whether or not he had anything to say to his Turkish counterpart ahead of a July 27
meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

While Haaretz did not reveal the details of the message sent by Netanyahu to Erdoğan, it did report that Cameron passed on the information to Erdoğan during their tête-à-tête.

The relationship between the two hit a historic low after Israel’s deadly May 2010 raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla aid ship that killed eight Turkish and one U.S. citizen of Turkish origin.

The attack was the climax in a two-year long saga of rising tensions between Turkey and Israel, during which the former’s prime minister walked out of the Davos Economic Forum in protest at the latter’s president.

Turkey has demanded a formal apology from Israel alongside compensation for victims and the families of the dead, but Israel has so far only expressed “regret.”

This was a truly unfourtate incident. Turkey and Isreal both have an interest in maintaining good and close corporation for the sake of a prosperous M.E, and in defense against the criminal dictatorships such as Iran. Israel has to also understand Turkish sensitivities about the rights of Palestinians, Turkey as a main Sunni country can not be indifferent to this matter. The Hamas terrorists are to be blamed for this situation in the first place, but they should not be allowed to sabotage this.

@A. Rapaport, re; Coexist - Holy Book Koran teaches Moslems: When you meet strangers, try to live in peace with them, God does't love troublemakers - if they try to destroy you vby taking your Land and property, thus your livelyhood, Destroy them! Consider following 7-24-2012 statement by Israeli F.M. A.Lieberman: "The Jewish people have lived for hundreds of years in [Turkey] in safety, even during World War II". Turks are Moslems, part of the Greater Islamic World, who always pray for Peace

A. Rapaport, here is the first line of your reply: "Cy Samuels, I dont know what your talking about or who your quoting." Sir, Whom I am quoting is there for all to see and the content is selfexplainatory, so if you do not know who David BenGurion was, then, all talk with you about Israel has no further meaning! Yes, Terorist is in the eyes of beholder, those who attacked and murdered 9 people on Mavi Marmara were terorist to passangers, yet Israel pinned medals on them. Do you see what I mean?

Cy Samuels, I dont know what your talking about or who your quoting. I disagree with the concept of a terrorist is in the eye of the beholder. If you plan and legitimize to kill men, woman and children on purpose your a terrorist. If you teach little kids to kill and hate your sick. It happens to be Hamas does both of those as many other terrorists do. I may be fixated on Hamas because I know the harm they have done. To call it fixated on Hamas.. well sorry if I give a damn.

Don't make it personal, just say Turkey is sorry for causing the problem. Had they not tried to do something illegal in the first place,no one would have lost their life., why is it so difficult for Turks to see it is they who were acting illegally by trying to crash the blockade . Turks really do need to look at the 'whole' picture instead of crying victim for the outcome.

Murat, Ardugan demanded Israel lift the blockade on Gaza; a place that shoots missiles, kidnaps and plots to kill Israelis. This demand is why relations are bad. A friend doesnt support the person trying to kill you. Hamas openly calls for the destruction of Israel and considers ALL of Israel as occupied land and not a inch can ever be given up for under Islam it is forbidden. This is what Hamas says. This is who Ardugan supports and wants to help under "humanistic" grounds.

A. Rapaport - Ben Gurion also warned in 1948 : "We must do everything to insure they ( the Palestinians) never do return." Assuring his fellow Zionists that Palestinians will never come back to their homes. "The old will die and the young will forget." Well Sir, the young have not forgotten, nor will their gransons and grangrand son, who will want to reclaim their National Birthright. You and your gfeneration to follow will keep calling them "Terorist" but it will not hide the naked truth!"

A. Rapaport, Sir you have a Hamas fixation & see a terorist around every corner. A Terorist is one that is inthe eye of the beholder, here is an perfect example of a mass Teror: "We walked outside, Ben-Gurion accompanying us. Allon repeated his question, What is to be done with the Palestinian population?' Ben-Gurion waved his hand in a gesture which said 'Drive them out!'" Yitzhak Rabin, leaked censored version of Rabin memoirs, published in New York Paters, October 1979. Now this Terorism!

For those who have problems with facts: Trade and tourism between two countries exploded under Erdogan governments, largest defense contracts were signed, he led the massive trade delegation to Israel, he hosted Peres who gave a historic speech at the Turkish parliament, it was him trying to mediate... Nope, it was NOT Erdogan who torpedoed the relations. Israel did. They have blood on their hands, not Turks. Give me a break.

The great question is if Islam can coexist in a productive, cooperative, mutually beneficial way with Israel. From Israels perspective Islam has shown Israelis / Jews death, destruction, hatred. Even in Egypt & Jordan where there are peace agreements hate speech and books are rampant on TV, mosques, schools and government agencies. Turkey elected the first Islamic party & we see clearly its agenda, ramifications and demands. Israel wants good friends not Islamic haters.
